Every day When I have the time, I’ll pick a brand and choose one car I think represents the pinnacle of their design - not just the looks, but technology, engine, and desirability as well. The car had to be sold new in the USA.

Round 10

My first thought for this one was “oh this will be easy - 1984 Minivan”. It saved the company, and it was a great vehicle at the time. Then I realized they were branded as Dodge or Plymouth, and not as Chrysler.

My second choice was Chrysler 300 - 2004+ models look awesome, they had some spectacular engines like what came in the SRT8 model, even the regular 5.7L Hemi was cool, and the plebian V6 model looked almost as good as the big brothers. But then I realized this would be cheating - while the engines were awesome, too much of this platform was pillaged from the MB E-class, and the car just wasn’t a real Chrysler.

So, that leaves me with the original Chrysler 300 - 1955 model, with a real HEMI engine, 331 cubic inches of American fury and ingeniousness, and a beautiful design. Some people don’t like the fact that a modern car like Lexus RC is a car made out other Lexus cars - front end is GS, middle is XE20 IS Convertible and the rear is XE30 IS, but Chrysler did it over 60 years ago. They took chunks from the Imperial, New Yorker, Windsor and made the 300, which is arguably the grandpa of all muscle cars of the 60's and 70's.

Chrysler flirted with bankruptcy plenty of times before - with the current FCA management, with no one buying large sedans, with Chrysler offering one current car, one dying car and one minivan - and Jeep is the only reason why they are not bankrupt again.

Conquest is the pinnacle of cars designed with Chrysler badge.

I know it was a huge deal, I just don’t like it. These posts are just my opinion of what I think the pinnacle was, but I welcome other opinion as well

too much of this platform was pillaged from the MB E-class,

no it wasn’t. it was a heavily-redesigned descendent of the LH platform, with a late “reset” to accomodate a Mercedes rear suspension design.

I always liked Starions, but the question was pinnacle of Chrysler design - not pinnacle of “let’s take a Starion and pop our badge on it”.

The LX was developed in America to supersede the previous Chrysler LH platform , which had been designed to allow it to be easily upgraded to rear and all-wheel drive. A few Mercedes designs were synergized, including the Mercedes-Benz W220 S-class control arm front suspension, the Mercedes-Benz W211 [1] E-Class 5-link rear suspension, the firewall and floor pan, the W5A580 5-speed automatic, the rear differential, and the ESP system.

It had MB rear suspension, firewall, floor pan, differential, modified transmission, parts of front suspension, and ESP. I think this qualifies as “not Chrysler designed” for me, but you are welcome to disagree.

It sure does, and even though I usually don’t like whitewalls, they look great on it.

The ‘55 Firedome looks better, IMHO.

Kinja'd!!!

Also an Early Hemi (291), first year as an entry model. Also, the grand-dad of muscle-car title probably belongs more correctly to the ‘49 Olds 88. The ‘55 300 is more the druncle of muscle cars.

I’m not sure Chrysler Chryslers are actually designed as much as they’re thrown together with whatever old parts they happen to have that day if the workers feel like it.

I’ll agree on drunkle, but not on the design of the Firedome. It was a Desoto anyway ;)

And what is great is the LH was heavily based off of the Eagle Premier which was designed by AMC... making the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger the most AMC cars you can buy new today.

If you choose the marque DeSoto you should write about the airflow.
